WE TRAIN ALL BREEDS

SERVICES
The services we offer are designed to help you build a healthy and happy relationship between you and you new or current family member.

We take great pride in the services we have to offer helping our customers build the right foundation in obedience and health with the right training gear and proper nutrition.

It is necessary that we demonstrate all techniques, gear and nutritional item with our pets. With so many bad techniques and gimmicks, it is imperative that our customers understand right from wrong.

What you create today, you will have to live with tomorrow. It is important the we train the family for the dog:)

Don’t determine your pet’s future by the price of a class. It is important to speak with the trainer before you invest your hard earned money. Develop your own comfort zone for how that trainer will be handling your dog. Many of our client’s have gone to a training class based on the price. At the end of the course they still have many issues and don’t understand why. Many of the dogs we retrained have attended several types training coursed because they made the mistake of judging the trainer based on price. Although budgeting is a factor don’t make it the sole reason you use a trainer. It’s may cost you more in the long run.

OUR STORE NUTRITION

WE TRAIN ALL BREEDS

TRAINING
Our training techniques help build the right foundation between the handler and dog. We do not use food, or compulsive training techniques. We educate the dog owner with the handler’s skills and tools necessary to meet every need without stress. Our foundation teaches your dog to stay close to you along with building a bond and confidence. The techniques teach your dog when to go to work and when he/she is done working while having fun.

We offer multiple classes for all training levels and needs. All dogs that enter our training programs are “temperament tested” to ensure you and your pet utilize the correct system.

I will not trick you with so called "quick fix" training methods or speed training. It took a long time to create the behavior and will take time to permanently correct it. Training is work and the reward is a BALANCE BETWEEN OWNER AND DOG.

Normally I do not go to the pet owner's home to obedience train their dog. I have found that there are too many unplanned distractions in the home. All phases of my initial training plan for distractions in a controlled manner. This method insures that we can address the controlled distractions. Training is supposed to be fun. Having a stranger handle a dog on its property often puts the dog in avoidance or defense. Neither situation is fun for the dog. This is similar to me coming to your home and taking over your children. This puts a big question mark in the dogs mind adding more confusion. For the best results, go to your trainer’s facility.
Behavioral issues are different from Obedience Training. Don’t waste your money on so called fast fixes for problems that have been building in your dog for a long period of time. Training is work. When performed correctly, it is worth the effort.

PUPPY PROGRAM (PUPPY KINDERGARTEN)Raising your puppy the right way starts as soon as you bring him/her home. Our Puppy Kindergarten course is a private class, which is done in our facility. Your family and puppy get one on one time with your trainer.

Our puppy program is designed to help pet owners start a foundation with their dogs as well as; confidence building, house breaking tips, recall, chewing behaviors, jumping, proper correction techniques, how to approach your new puppy, socializing your dog with people and other dogs, and nutrition. Owners will attend class every week for one hour over a four-week period or every 2 weeks until the puppy reaches 4 or 5 months of age. We also offer new dog owners an opportunity to purchase puppy supplies at discounted cost. All puppies are welcome.

EVALUATIONS
For pet owners with dogs older than 5 months, including middle age and senior dogs, we offer an evaluation to give you a better understanding of how to raise your new family member. Much of what is covered in the Puppy Program is discussed here along with allowing your dog the opportunity to think. This visit also allows us the opportunity to understand your pet so we can assist you on the path of building a bond with an obedient partner. Evaluations typical take 1 to 2 hours. All dogs welcome. All ages over 5 months welcome.

FOUNDATON PROGRAM
For pet owners with dogs older than 5 months, including middle age and senior dogs, we offer a Foundation Program to give you a better understanding of how to raise your new family member. This is a 4 week private course that will help handlers gain the knowledge and some handler skills to educate their dog on whom the pack leaders are. We will cover the current issues and how to avoid future problems. This program was designed for handlers that do not need formal obedience but do need to gain control over their dog. As with all of our courses, we teach you how to build a bond and gain mental control over your dog. No food or compulsion training. All dogs welcome. All ages over 5 months welcome.

ON-LEASH OBEDIENCE PROGRAM
USA K9’s On-Leash Obedience Program is a 6 week private course that meets for one hour a week. Each lesson consists of you, your dog, and your trainer. Your trainer will set the foundation in your dog. Explanations will be given after the foundation is set. The course is designed to teach your dog a series of commands while giving you a mini handler’s course. Our goal is to have our clients gain the knowledge and skills to continue the foundation that will lead to an obedient pet without creating stress in their dog. The request between you and your dog will be made clear and will help form a partnership and trust. Your dog is given the opportunity to think and make decisions based on praise and simple corrections. At the discretion of the trainer, students will be given the opportunity to work their dog in town for the last class. Proper training equipment will be discussed in the course and may be purchased through USA K9. All dogs are welcome.

ADVANCED DISTRACTION PROGRAM
Creating a foundation by building a bond and teaching your dog the obedience commands are the beginning steps to raising an obedient dog. The next step is to introduce distraction training. This course is a 4 week private course that meets for one hour a week. Each lesson consists of you, your dog, and your trainer. You and your pet will be working in public areas including a strip mall, in town, local pet stores, and near dog runs. You will put your dog to work and learn how to create different scenarios and distractions to keep you and your dog educated. This is a great course for handlers that want to gain confidence in training and socializing their dog in public. All dogs are welcome.

Optional: Owners may substitute an Advanced Obedience/Milling session as a class. Pleas visit our Advanced Obedience/Milling Program for more information on working your dog on our K9 treadmill.

ADVANCED OBEDIENCE/MILLING PROGRAM
Our state of the art dog powered treadmill is a great way to build confidence, endurance and focus. Milling is a great way to exhaust excessive and nervous energy along with mentally challenging your pet. We use out treadmill to build endurance for dogs that, compete in agility, tracking, protection work, building overall confidence and strength.

We do not use our mill to condition dogs for fighting. Any inclination of owners training for dog fighting will result in an immediate dismissal of all services along with filing a report with the proper authorities.

Our Advanced Obedience/Milling Program is a 4 week private course that meets for one hour a week. The dog and handler team will further tune their skills around the neighborhood as we look for common occurrences and challenges encountered on daily walk. The dog and handler team will be working along with one of our dogs as a distraction for 30 minuets. We will spend the following 30 minuets introducing the treadmill. Here, your dog will build confidence, strength and mental focus. Dog and handler team must complete the On-leash Obedience program to attend this class. All dogs are welcome.

ON/OFF-LEASH ADVANCED OBEDIENCE PROGRAM
Once your pet has displayed a clear understanding and consistent movement on leash, they may attend the ON/Off-leash Advanced Obedience Program. This is an 6 week program that will meet once a week for 6 weeks. The course is available for group lessons and private lessons. You and your dog will perform the commands learned during the On-leash Program. Group drills, agility, introductions to other pets and people are some of the tasks your pet will be exposed to. The course is designed to help owners further improve their handler skills. All dogs are welcome.

AKC's Canine Good Citizen® (CGC)
Therapy Dog International (TDI)
Testing & Programs

As an AKC CGC and TDI evaluator we offer Canine Good Citizen & Therapy Dog Testing.

The Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs that pass the required CGC test may receive a CGC certificate from the American Kennel Club.

Therapy Dogs International, Inc. (TDI) is a volunteer group organized to provide qualified handlers and their therapy dogs for visitations to institutions, facilities, and any other place where therapy dogs are needed. TDI is a non-profit organization. There is no charge for visitations. All funds are derived from associate membership dues. Donations or bequests are welcome. The primary objective of the TDI dog and handler is to provide comfort and companionship by sharing the dog with the patients in hospitals, nursing homes and other institutions and wherever else the therapy dog is needed. This is done in a way that increases emotional well being, promotes healing, and improves the quality of life for the people being visited and the staff that cares for these people.

We currently visit Broadlawn Manor nursing and assisted living facility with Arko as part of the pet therapy program for alzheimers and elderly patients. This is a great location with a wonderful staff that welcomes dog to visit. Please contact us if your dog is certified and would like to visit this location.

ON-LEASH OBEDIENCE CGC/TDI PROGRAM
Our On-Leash Obedience Program is our 6 week On-leash obedience program which has been modified to help handlers gain the knowledge and handler skill to pass the CGC and or TDI test. The CGC& TDI test will be given at the end of this course.

BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION PROGRAM
Most behavior issues do not happen overnight. They usually start with something that handlers view as ok or cute. The issues grow in time and are not noticed until something drastic happens. Not having clarity and bad handler skill between the dog and owner can create nervous, skittish, and out of control dogs along with different levels of aggression. Our behavior modification course is a 6-week private course that meets one hour a week for 6 weeks. Handlers are tough how rebuild the foundation and establish dominance without fighting the dog. This program concentrates on rebuilding the dogs and handlers mind to understand whom the pack leaders are while building a bond. We focus on basic handler skills to help revert unwanted behaviors. After establishing clarity in the dog, we revisit the issues that were created by the owners. Don’t waste your money on so called fast fixes for problems that have been building in your dog for a long period of time. Training is work. When performed correctly, it is worth the effort. All dogs are welcome.

BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION/IN-HOUSE OBEDIENCE PROGRAM
USA K9’s Behavior Modification Program enables your dog to live at our facility for 30 days. Your dog will be taken through our On-Leash Obedience Program and worked in different indoor and outdoor environments. The trainer will access the behavior of the dog and make the necessary modifications to correct unwanted behavior by education. This program works well with individuals that have a busy schedule and don’t want their dog growing up to be unmanageable, for dogs that are currently unmanageable, or dogs with social issues. Dogs entering this program must be a minimum of 4 months old. The program will be followed up with our On-Leash Obedience Program. All dogs are welcome.

It’s important to know your dog needs a minimum of one week to get acclimated to its new environment. Programs that are under 3 weeks usually involve cruel and unnecessary training techniques. Shocking, kicking, and other forms of abuse are used to force dogs to submit or change. This can drive dogs to be overly submissive and or become overly aggressive.

This is NOT how we do our behavior modification. We give your dog time to adjust to its new environment. Your dog is educated and given the opportunity to think. Your dog will be taught in a way that is more natural him /her.

“We don’t fight your dog, we educate your dog.”

K9 PROTECTION

Pohranicni straze (Border Patrol)

Czech German Shepherd Dog History
History of Z Pohranicni Straze kennel

Prior to the 1989 revolution in the Czech Republic which led to the fall of their communist government, the breeding of German Shepherd Dogs was predominately that of working dogs. What is unique is that this breeding has revolved around one kennel, owned by the Czechoslovakian Army's Pohranicni Straze (Border Patrol).

The Kennel z Pohranicni Straze (Z PS) was founded in the year 1955 for the sole purpose of producing and training dogs that would be exclusively used for the protection of the borders of the Czechoslovakian People's Republic or, since 1968, the Czechoslovakian Socialist Republic. Most of the dogs used for breeding were acquired from the territory of former East Germany, as well as dogs from Czechoslovakia that excelled in their character qualities.

The stud dogs, females and puppies were cared after by military service conscripts. The dogs were trained at the Kennels for about 12 months, and then relocated to Border Patrol training facilities (nowadays they're quartered at Czech police training facilities).

The breeding program, established in 1956, has been under the direction of Mr.Jiri Novotny who, since 1981, has been the director of training. The main foundation of the breeding program has been focused on strengthening the power of bones, dark pigmentation, strong nerves and willingness to work in tracking, obedience and defense work.

While the kennel name remains "z Pohranicni Straze", it is now under the Pohranicni Policie (Border Police).

Depended upon Daily

During the years under the communist regime, the Czechoslovakian border patrol and their dogs would apprehend 20 to 30 people on a daily basis. While nine out of ten people would give up when confronted, the dogs were regularly called upon to defend their handlers from those intent on crossing the border at whatever cost.

Today the Czech Border Police share border stations with their German counter parts who maintain a tight control over economical refugees from former Eastern Block entering Germany. Those who are not given visa's to legally enter Germany attempt to cross this same Czech border. While many are crossing to seek a better life in Western Europe and usually do not resist arrest, an increasing number are connected with organized crime and are pose a considerable threat.

The "z Pohranicni Straze" German Shepherd Dogs continue to be called upon to respond daily in high risk, threatening situations. The training courses to prepare them are likewise demanding as are the requirements for breeding.

Breeding Facilities

There are three breeding facilities with a total of 80 breeding females that make up the "z Pohranicni Straze" kennel. There are 30 stud dogs, all of which are on active duty with their handlers. The breeding facilities are located within the Czech Border Police compounds in Domazlice, Libejovice and Prackovice. These compounds have high security status with access to them strictly forbidden to anyone, including Czech Border Police, who do not work at the specific facility.

Obtaining a Pohranicni Straze
German Shepherd Dog

There are three ways in which quality dogs from this highly desired "z Pohranicni Straze" kennel are available.

I. Studs Fees: The z Pohranicni Straze kennel breeds their females occasionally to dogs owned by civilians. The stud dogs chosen are outstanding working dogs selected for their ability to consistently produce dogs with exceptional working ability. The owner of the stud has the option of being paid or taking a puppy for payment. Most people take the latter option in order to own a "Z Pohranicni staze" dog.

II. Whelping litters: There are three kennels owned by civilians which the z Pohranicni Straze kennel works closely, Z Jirkova dvora, Jipo-Me and Z Blatenskeho zamku. These kennels, owned by civilians, are at times given the opportunity to take Pohranicni Straze breeding females and whelp the litters. In return, these private kennels keep half of the litter which bears the kennel name "z Pohranicni Straze".

III. Dog for dog: There are also times in which Pohranicni Straze Kennel trades dogs with these three kennels as another way to bring desired dogs and bloodlines into the Pohranicni Straze breeding program.

Center of Breeding

Through these three ways in which civilians have had access to z Pohranicni Straze dogs the kennel has managed to be at the center of breeding in both the former Czechoslovakia and the present day Czech Republic. Many of these dogs have been purchased by Schutzhund competitors in both Western Europe and the United States, often placing high at championship events. These dog's are in high demand in the United States and other countries for their ability to perform the high demand placed on Police Dogs. Because of the dedicated commitment to the breed, Pohvanicni Straze dogs make excellent home pets who will generally live long healthy lives and protect their family without regard to their own safety. They are accepting of strangers, but stay aware of their surrounding. They are without doubt and excellent all around dog.

HVK9 has made the commitment to breed these great German Shepherd Dog's with the same pride and excellence as the Czechoslovakians. HVK9 dogs are bred for temperament, drive, courage, physical ability and great looks to do any job without hesitation. They make excellent family pets and loyal guard dogs

You will find many photos of the dogs we breed on this and the HVK9 web site. The job that all of dogs perform is family pet. The other jobs the same dogs perform range from, therapy dog, AKC obedience completion, schutzhund work, agility, tracking, narcotics detection, bomb detection, family protection, security patrol, tracking, and clearing geese of a golf course.

AVID MICROCHIPPING ID FOR DOGS

(Animal Identification System)
Anyone who has ever lost a pet can attest to the emotional distress as well as the real expense incurred trying to recover their pet. Time off work to call the shelter, make flyers, call veterinarians, mail flyers, visit the shelters, dealing with the kids, the spouse, the job, the neighbors and so forth. Recovery efforts can easily burn up hundreds, if not thousands of dollars. I won't even try to place a dollar value on the emotional distress.

If your dog has a microchip, you can have your pet back home faster with less stress and cost. AVID provided shelters with scanners free of cost. Every dog that enters a shelter is scanned for a chip. Your chip number is tracked in the PETTRAC database along with the facility whom you purchased the chip from. This allows the shelter to retrieve the dog’s owner contact information getting your dog reunited with you faster.

AVID Technology
Advanced micro-electronic technology has enabled AVID to develop a system that provides precise, secure and permanent animal identification.
The AVID Animal Identification System utilizes its own unique and patented* technique, based on radio wave communications, to identify animals on demand.
The AVID Animal Identification System is comprised of the following two components:

AVID Microchip:

PASSIVE: No power supply to replace or cause harm to animals.

SMALL: About the size of a grain of rice.

SIMPLE: Standard injection procedure implants the identity tag quickly and safely. No anesthesia is required or recommended.

SAFE: The micro-electronic device is encapsulated within a proven bio-compatible glass.

RELIABLE: Accident or injury to the animal will not prevent the reading of the identity tag.

UNIQUE: Each identity tag is manufactured and programmed under computer control to insure against duplication of I.D. codes. No two animals would have the same number.

UNALTERABLE: Once implanted, the identity tag is virtually impossible to retrieve. Surgical removal, using the most advanced radiograph techniques available, is extremely difficult. The number can never be altered.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the AVID Microchip?
The microchip is a tiny computer chip, which has an identification number programmed into it and is encapsulated within a biocompatible material. The whole device is small enough to fit inside a hypodermic needle and can be simply injected under the skin of our pets, where it will stay for the life of the animal. This provides a permanent, positive identification, which cannot be lost, altered or intentionally removed - a safe, simple and inexpensive way to protect your pet against loss or theft.

How does the AVID Microchip work?
The computer memory in the AVID Microchip contains a unique number - no two animals will ever have the same number. A radio signal is used to read this number through the skin of your pet. In addition to the number, the microchip generates a reliability check to guarantee that your pet's identifying number is read accurately. This all takes place in less than 40 milliseconds.

How much does the injection cost?
The fee is certainly less than the cost of trying to locate a lost pet. The cost of printing and hanging fliers, placing ads and rewards, calling shelters, and taking time off of work can be substantial. Not to mention the anguish and worry or worse...the heartbreak of being too late.

How long does the AVID Microchip last?
Once injected under the skin of your pet, the AVID Microchip becomes encased by a thin layer of protein, which anchors it in place for the rest of the life of your pet. It does not pass through or out of the body. The microchip itself has no power supply to replace or moving parts to wear down. Therefore, it can be expected to last for decades - well beyond the life span of most pets.
What is the youngest age a pet can be identified?
Animals of any age can be injected with the AVID Microchip.

My pets never leave my yard. Why should they be identified with an AVID Microchip?
It only takes one time for the mailman, gardener, meter reader, neighbor or friend to leave the gate open or the door ajar. Unaltered pets in particular have a desire to roam. Pet theft is also a daily occurrence. Well behaved pets are sold for research. Animals such as purebreds, birds and exotics are valuable and are stolen for resale. Even horses are frequently stolen and sold for slaughter. Most shelters destroy the majority of pets they impound. They are destroyed only because they are not identified.

I have toy breeds. They are so tiny. Can I use the chip?
Absolutely. We have thousands of toy breed customers. You can chip your puppies as early as six weeks. Remember, the same sized microchip and needle are used in animals even smaller than yours, including mice, baby birds, and even fish!

Does my pet have to be sedated for the injection?
No! Injecting the AVID Microchip is just like any other injection or vaccination. Anesthesia is not required or recommended since there is minimal discomfort with the procedure.

Does the procedure hurt my pet?
Not at all. The injection creates only a slight discomfort - most pets don't even react to it. The microchip is encapsulated in a specially formulated biocompatible material created specifically for this kind of application.

Could my pet be allergic to the AVID Microchip?
The AVID Microchip is inert and biocompatible. There is virtually no chance of the body developing an allergy or trying to reject the microchip after being properly injected.

Can the microchip move around once inside the body of the animal?
When properly implanted, a small layer of connective tissue forms around the microchip, preventing movement or migration of the chip. Instructions and injection sites will vary depending upon the specie. As with any brand of chip, AVID® microchips will not migrate if instructions are followed and implantation is correct.

Where is the injection site in dogs?
Dogs are injected between the shoulder blades with a deep subcutaneous (under the skin) delivery of the chip.

In the show ring, can the microchip be felt by the judge’s hands?
No. When the chip is properly implanted deeply under the skin, no one will be able to locate the chip by touch, even in tiny breeds.

What are the AKC regulations and rules regarding the use of microchips?
The use of microchips satisfies the AKC’s policy for record keeping and identification. The identifying microchip number must be noted on the dog or litter record. If microchips are used as the primary means of identification, a scanner must be present at all times if there are more than 20 dogs over six months of age on the premises.

How do I know the shelter will be able to check for the AVID Microchip?
AVID offers an innovative program designed to place readers in shelters at no cost to the shelter, or the taxpayer! AVID is donating readers to shelters that promise to check animals for the AVID Microchips.

If my pet is found, how does the shelter know to contact me?
Animal shelters and animal control officers have been educated and informed about microchip identification and how it works. Shelters use industry wide, cross-compatible scanners that read all chips operating at a certain frequency. When a shelter finds a pet with a microchip they will call AVID. If the pet is registered with AVlD's recovery network, PETtrac, the shelter will be given the owner's name. If the pet is not registered, they will be given the name of the facility that injected the microchip. The facility will provide the owner's latest information.

What is PETtrac?
PETtrac is a global computerized tracking system for companion animals identified with the AVID Microchip. When you become a member, PETtrac can reunite your pets directly with you.

What is the cost to register with PETtrac?
You pay a one-time fee of $15.00 for a single pet or $40.00 for all your pets (up to 8 pets). There are no annual fees. There is, however, a $6.00 charge for information changes. Change of ownership requires a new registration. Animal recovery workers can find your pet's family directly rather than through your implanter.

What happens if I'm on vacation and my pet is found at the shelter?
PETtrac maintains "an alternate contact" information. Your pet would be released to your authorized representative to insure its well-being. Your pet is protected even when you are not at home, no matter what the reason.

My pet already has an AVID chip. How can I get him registered in the AVID network for lost pets? How can I change his registration?
Please contact PETtrac directly calling them at (800)336-2843. They will answer all of your questions and/or send you an application.
